Films for 2017
|
Top picks of films due for UK release in 2017:
Dunkirk (Chris Nolan)
Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Fashion Project (PTA and Daniel Day Lewis again, sign me up. Might end up being 2018 though)
Silence (new Scorsese, out today)
Star Wars episode VIII
Alien: Covenant
War for the Planet of the Apes
Blade Runner 2049
Manchester by the Sea
La La Land (I'm not usually a big musical fan but Whiplash from the same director was so good, and Emma Stone & Ryan Gosling are disgustingly talented so it might work)
The Handmaiden (Park Chan-Wook)
Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle
T2 Trainspotting (slightly concerned about this though)
The Dark Tower (Stephen King adaptation)
Baby Driver (Edgar Wright new film)
The Death of Stalin (Armando Iannucci)
Happy End (Michael Haneke's new film, if it comes out this year)
You Were Never Really Here (Lynne Ramsay new film)
Toni Erdmann (critical darling on the festival circuit in 2016)
Elle (Paul Verhoeven + Isabelle Huppert)
The Zookeeper's Wife
How to Talk to Girls at Parties
Ghost In The Shell (seems to be blasphemous for fans of the anime but might be fun)
COMIC BOOK CORNER
Spiderman: Homecoming The Lego Batman Movie Justice League Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Wonder Woman Logan (Wolverine)
And even though it's TV, a special mention to the new series of TWIN PEAKS. Which I can't wait for.
NOT looking forward to: yet another Transformers film, yet another Pirates of the Caribbean film, the Emoji Movie (yes, seriously), Power Rangers, Baywatch....
You cunts?

who spike? I think he's let the politics get in the way of story telling. his films have always had a political edge but the last few years most of his stuff has been unwatchable. I wouldn't put people off watching Chi-Raq but it wasn't for me

Some others coming out this year that haven't been mentioned:
Kong: Skull Island - Looks okay, good cast.
Fast & Furious 8 - You know what you are getting with these films, big action, suspend belief and just enjoy them for what they are. Charlize Theron is in this, Kurt Russell again too.
Soldado - Sequel to Sicario (Emily Blunt, Benecio Del Toro, Directed by Denis Villeneuve). (Hasn't got a release date as yet but meant to be November 2017)
Live By Night - Organised crime drama that's directed by Ben Affleck.
Lion - Based on True Story, Indian boy get's lost, get's adopted by Australians and tries finding his parents 25 years later.
Sing - Animation about singing animals with good cast. (Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Saunders)
The Wall - Soldier trapped by Iraqi sniper fire. Just from the trailer alone this looks tense and could be a couple of twists.
Life - One for the Sci-Fi fans, a team discover Mars, again trailer looks great with a strong cast. (Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, I especially want to see Rebecca after how good she was in Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, she was excellent in that, could be a good year for her.
Murder on the Orient Express - Kenneth Branagh directing with Himself, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Daisy Ridley, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Michael Pena starring about the Belgian detective, Poirot, investigating a murder on the famous train.
These have already been released but we don't get them released in cinemas here in UK till this year:
Man Down - Strong buzz around this, Shia LaBeouf putting in a high career performance apparently, quite looking forward to seeing this one from the trailer, about a soldier who see's his friend blown up infront of him.
Moonlight - Oscar buzz around this. Follows the life of a young black man as he goes from childhood to adulthood and his struggles growing up in a rough neighborhood in Miami.
